Physician associates: GMC calls for views on regulation

The General Medical Council has launched a consultation on how it will regulate physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs).1
The regulator must be ready to regulate PAs and AAs by the end of 2024, after legislation was passed by the UK and Scottish parliaments legally requiring it to do so. Ahead of this, the GMC needs to consult on the rules, standards, and guidance that provide the detail for how regulation will be delivered.
The consultation covers PAs’ and AAs’ education and training, registration, fees, and how concerns about them will be dealt with. It is not seeking views on whether the GMC is the appropriate regulator of PAs and AAs, or on their …
